CAMBA is getting ready to hold elections to elect a new Board of Directors.  As provided in the Bylawsthe Board appointed Elections Committee has determined the process for holding elections, as outlined here.

CAMBA 2017 Elections Process:

1. August 17, 2017 -- Elections Process Established

The Bylaws require that the elections process be set at least 60 days prior to the election.  This email shall constitute notice of the final elections process for the 2015 elections to elect a new Board.  Please note that the Elections Process shall also be posted to the CAMBA website.

2.  September 24, 2017 (11:59 PM EST) -- Deadline for Members to Submit Elections Materials

CAMBA conducts staggered elections annually to ensure an overlap and continuity of leadership from year to year. Each Board member is elected for a two year term and either three or four board seats are open every year.  

The 2017 Elections shall be to elect four (4) Lawyer Members to the Board. These four (4) available Board positions shall be filled by current Lawyer Members who are elected for a term of two (2) years.  Board members completing their current two year term are eligible for reelection. 

The Bylaws provide that only "Lawyer Members" are eligible to vote and stand for board elections.  Generally, a "Lawyer Member" is any person who satisfies the following requirements: (i) paid applicable membership dues; and (ii) lawyer admitted to practice who lives or works in the greater Washington area OR lawyer not admitted to practice but has a JD, LLM, LLB or a foreign law degree and lives or works in the greater Washington area.  If you have any questions about whether you qualify to vote and/or stand for board elections, please feel free to contact the Elections Committee.

Any Lawyer Member that would like to stand for board elections must submit the following materials to the Elections Committee (email address: by 11:59 PM ESTon September 24, 2017:

a)     Notice of intent to stand for board elections; and

b)    Submission of written responses to the following questions which shall be shared on CAMBA's website and by email via the list serv (please limit your responses to half a page):

1.     Name

2.     Brief summary of your legal education, experience and background

3.     Why do you want to be on the CAMBA Board?

4.     What skills/qualifications will you bring to the CAMBA Board?

5.     What are your goals for CAMBA?

6.     Please share any additional information about yourself that you would like to add

3.  The Week of October 9, 2017 -- Meet & Greet with Candidates

During the week of October 9, 2017, the Elections Committee shall call a CAMBA general body meeting to allow the candidates running for board elections to introduce themselves and answer any questions that people have.  All candidates running will be given approximately 3 minutes to present themselves to those in attendance and that timing will be monitored by the elections committee.  The order of candidate presentations will be chosen at random.  The time and location will be announced on CAMBA's website and by email via the list serv. 

4.  October 15, 2017 (11:59 PM EST) -- Deadline for Becoming an Eligible Voting Member

To vote in the 2017 board elections, you must be a "Lawyer Member" by October 15, 2017, 11:59 PM EST.  Any person who becomes a Lawyer Member after October 15, 2017 shall not be eligible to vote in the annual board elections.

5.  The Week of October 16, 2017 -- Voting

All eligible Lawyer Members shall receive an email invitation to vote during the week of October 16, 2017.  Voting shall take place electronically and each Lawyer Member shall receive the email invitation to the email address CAMBA has for such Lawyer Member in its records as of October 16, 2017.  Please note that each Lawyer Member may only submit their vote once and no changes/edits will be allowed. 

The voting window shall open Monday, October 16, 2017 at 9:00 AM EST, and shall close Friday, October 20, 2017 at 5:00 PM EST.  The the four (4) candidates with the most votes will join the existing Board of Directors.  Should there be a tie among candidates for a position on the Board, a runoff will be held the following week.

6.  The Week of October 23, 2017 -- Election Results Announced (Assuming No Runoff)

Election results shall be announced on CAMBA's website and by email via the list serv on Monday, October 23, 2017.

The new CAMBA Board will be introduced to membership at the CAMBA Annual Board meeting, held during the week of October 30, 2017. The time and location will be announced on CAMBA's website and by email via the list serv.
