ABOUT CAMBA

The Capital Area Muslim Bar Association's mission is to foster a sense of fellowship amongst diverse Muslim legal professionals and establish an institutional presence within the Capital Area legal community. CAMBA strives to elevate our members to prominence, develop future leaders, and amplify our collective voice to impact legal issues affecting the Muslim community.

The Capital Area Muslim Bar Association ("CAMBA") officially incorporated in the District of Columbia in March 2013 after several years of informal activities.  Soon thereafter, CAMBA was approved as a 501(c)(6), professional organization.  The first full-term CAMBA Board of Directors was elected in November 2013.

During its inaugural two-year term, the Board was actively engaged in developing a three-year strategic plan for CAMBA.  In that process, the Board has formulated its long term mission and vision for CAMBA as it continues to grow into a sustainable organization.   An introduction and one-page summary of the strategic plan is available here.  If you are interested in seeing the Plan in its entirety, simply send a request to us at cambadirectors@gmail.com

Vision for CAMBA

CAMBA will be a valuable and sought-after professional network. Our membership and leadership will reflect the diversity of the Muslim community at large. We will be an institutional presence within the bar community as the voice of the Muslim legal community in the Capital Area. We will be seen as a valuable contributor on issues of legal importance and a trusted partner with other bar groups on common goals.

CAMBA will elevate the role of Muslim legal professionals in the broader legal community. We will continue to create space for diverse individuals with a shared professional and faith identity to interact with each other, striving to serve as a model for an integrated Muslim community at large.

Vision for Community

The Capital Area legal community will reflect greater diversity. That diversity will include a greater presence of Muslims in the legal profession. Muslim legal professionals will be promoted to leadership and decision-making roles in the wider legal profession, amplifying their voice as recognized, valuable contributors on substantive legal issues.  The legal community at large will also seek our perspective on matters of importance to the Muslim legal community.
